Christian Counselling FAQ
How does Christian counselling differ from pastoral care?
Pastoral care focuses primarily on spiritual guidance, discipleship, and prayer within a church community. At Cairis Counselling you are supported by a master’s-level professional, utilizing evidence-based clinical models while integrating Christian principles and practice at your request.
Do I need to be a practicing Christian to receive counselling at Cairis?
Not at all. Cairis Counselling warmly welcomes individuals of all backgrounds, beliefs, and worldviews. At Cairis, we recognize that Christians may come from evangelical, mainline Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox, or other Christian traditions. We also recognize that people can have complicated relationships with Christianity, including experiences of spiritual abuse, shame, rejection, or religious trauma. We do not impose our beliefs, and we meet every client with unconditional respect and care.
Who is this a good fit for?
For everyone regardless of their religious background we offer clinical counselling using proven approaches to help people with a wide range of mental health concerns. We are great option for those Christians who want a counsellor where Christian values are understood those values are respected. Others might want a deeper integration with Christian thought and practice, and we offer that as well.
Is Christian counselling at Cairis covered by private insurance in Saskatchewan?
Therapy offered by Canadian Certified Counsellors qualify for coverage with benefit plans that explicitly cover clinical counsellors and psychotherapists. However some plans only cover services offered by Registered Psychologists and Registered Social Workers. It all depends on the contract between your employer and your benefits provider. We encourage checking your specific policy details. Unfortunately, no one at Cairis Counselling is covered by NIHB the Non-Insured Health Benefits plan for indigenous persons.
Do you provide in-person therapy in Saskatoon or online options?
We offer both. In-person sessions take place at our downtown Saskatoon office located on the 3rd Floor of the CIBC Building (201 21st St East). Secure online video therapy is also available for residents throughout Saskatchewan and western Canada.
