Jacqueline Block, BS, MTS, MA (in progress) – Counsellor
Introduction
Do you feel like a failure because you don’t quite fit in this world? Do you feel guilt and shame because you can’t keep up with the expectations? Is life just a little too overwhelming? I specialize in helping those who feel stuck in patterns that bring frustration and shame.
You might be diagnosed with ADHD, Autism or just feel like you are struggling to get through the muck of grief, anxiety, or depression. You might be someone struggling to support a loved one who is trying make their way in a world that isn’t designed for them.
I help bring understanding to life’s difficult challenges. In my approach to therapy, I help bring clarity to problems that keep us stuck. I help you find your strength and equip you with skills to manage your emotions and find a way to not just survive but thrive.
I am trained in Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy and Attachment Theory. I am happy to take on clients age 10 and older.
What I bring to therapy:
I am a wife and mother of two young adults. As a family we enjoy good conversations, support each other to live out our faith, and like to stay active. I’ve had the privilege of living in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and in the US and Mexico and visited other places across our beautiful world. I feel blessed through the many diverse people, landscapes and vocational opportunities I’ve experienced. My volunteer, education and work demonstrate my wholistic approach to life and on-going desire to nurture different elements of who we are as human beings — physical, social, spiritual, intellectual and emotional.
I am a learner and explorer at heart and I am thankful for the ways throughout my life that I’ve been able to support and empower others in their own healing and growth. I value honest and open dialogue that allows people to truly know and accept themselves and live life more fully within their own unique strengths and limitations.
I approach counselling with both a gentle and tenacious spirit, knowing that while there is so much goodness inside of us, we also each carry wounds and burdens that are at times more than we can bear on our own. We come to counselling because we hope change is possible. I seek to offer a hospitable space for you to discover what might be holding you back from the change you truly desire and a discerning voice that encourages you along the way.
As my children begin to leave home, I am pursuing a MA with a counselling focus out of a desire to know and support people like you. As a practicum student, my hope is to meet you where you are at and provide the support you need as you seek healing, gain new insights and tools to be, live or work with greater freedom, peace, and purpose.
Reading, writing, playing sports, spending time with family and friends, and cultivating my spiritual life all add much goodness to my life. Yet, connecting with people on a heart level and seeing them grow and enjoy life in the midst of all its on-going challenges is what brings me joy.
